This expansion added tons of new gameplay options toThe Sims 4. Players got to grow tons of new crops, take care of chickens, cows, and even llamas, bake pies, and even make theirown jams and mayo. This guideis all about canning, a fun feature added with theCottage Living pack. Here, players will learn how to start making their own preserves and take a look at all the available recipes.
How To Start Canning
Canning isn’t actually a separate skill, and if a Sim has already acquired some Cooking skill then they’ll have access to some canning recipes right away. To can inThe Sims 4, the player must either interact with the fridge or the stove, then select “Canning” option.
Canning is not available off the gridbecause it requires a working stove.

If some recipes appear grayed out, it’s because the Sim doesn’t have the required ingredients in their inventory. To actually start canning, the selected Sim must have the required ingredients for the recipe in their inventory. Even with the Simple Living lot challenge, canning can only be performed with acquired ingredients - they cannot be purchased from the fridgelike cooking recipes.
All Canning Recipes
There are 17 canning recipes inThe Sims 4, and they all require the player to find different ingredients. Gamers don’t have to master the Cookingskill to unlock all availablecanning recipes -it only goes up to level six.
As mentioned above, all the ingredients required for a recipe must be acquired before it becomes available.Sims can grow their own fruits, vegetables, and oversized crops, but they can also simply purchase them from the stalls inFinchwick in Henford-on-Bagley.
