The Witcherseason 2 has started filming, with some scenes being filmed near Dorking, UK. Twitter use PalaceProud was able to snap some shots ofThe Witcherseason 2 filming in action, revealing the new look for the character Filavandrel, an elf character who appeared in one episode of the show’s first season.
When viewers ofThe Witcherseason 1 first see Filavandrel, it is set during the past timeline, meaning that many years have passed since Geralt encountered him. Only seen inThe WitcherSeason 1 Episode 2: Four Marks, Filavandrel is encouraged by Geralt to once again build up the elven communities and grow in number. According toThe WitcherNetflix news site Redanian Intelligence, these images are from a scene involving an elven camp, so it seems as though Filavandrel was at least somewhat successful in his attempts.

While the time jump explains why Filavandrel has a new look forThe Witcherseason 2, there may be another reason as well. There is a new costume designer working on the show, Lucinda Wright, who presumably worked on the outfits seen in the photos. It’s unclear if Wright was brought on the show due to the negative reception to things like theNilfgaardian armor in season 1, but in any case, it will be interesting to see if fans have a more positive reception to the costumes inThe Witcherseason 2.
Redanian Intelligence notes that there are two other characters that are involved in this scene. They are newWitcherseason 2 characters Francesca and Gage. While Francesca was noted in Netflix’s recent casting announcement, some fans may not recognize her brother Gage. It’s unclear why Gage was left out ofThe Witcherseason 2 cast reveal, but we know that he will be played by Kaine Zajaz in the show.
Another character that was missing from Netflix’s casting announcement was Geralt’s mentor Vesemir. Netflix had reportedly offered the role to the likes ofMichael Keaton and Mads Mikkelsen, but they apparently turned down the opportunity. The latest rumor is that Mark Hamill will play Vesemir inThe Witcherseason 2, in response to fan demand, but nothing official has been announced.
The Witcherseason 2won’t premiere until 2021, but more information should come to light in the coming months.
