At both San Diego Comic-Con and the D23 conference, lucky attendees were present to see the first footage from the upcomingAnt-Man & The Wasp: Quantumania. This film picks up after the events ofAvengers: Endgame, which found Scott Lang playing an integral role in saving half of humanity. This journey, however, will challenge those stakes.

As the third entry in theAnt-Mantrilogy, this film will surely be the culmination of the story set up by the past two flicks. Plus,Quantumaniawill have a lot in store to satisfy eager fans ofMarvel Comics, especially when it comes to its villains. Before the trailer hits the Internet, these six details fans at Comic-Con and D23 got to see may be enough to keep audiences waiting.

6Cassie Lang Plays A Big Role

WhenAnt-Man & The Wasp: Quantumaniabegins, Scott Lang is living as a celebrity post-Endgame. However, not all that glitters is gold for Scott, as a scene in the trailer shows him posting bail for his daughter, Cassie, who seems to be taking after her father. This proves to be just the beginning of Cassie’s significant future in the MCU.

Throughout the trailer, Cassie plays a big role in the events ofQuantumania, inadvertently sending the heroes to the Quantum Realm. Comic fans can get excited over the prospect of Cassie taking up a superhero mantle like her father, becoming the purple-suited Avenger, the Stinger. Hopefully, she’ll become besties with Kate Bishopin a future project, too.

5Entering The Quantum Realm

While the end ofAnt-Man & The Waspteased the existence of the Quantum Realm,Quantumaniawill spend the bulk of its time in the micro dimension. It’s currently unknown how closely the Quantum Realm will resemble its comic counterpart, the Microverse; however, if it does, that will be very telling as to the origins of this particle-sized world.

In the comics, the Microverse was created by a time traveler known as Wayfinder, using it as a place of refuge for him and his displaced people. The MCU could take some creative liberties with that backstory and instead make the Quantum Realm the creation of another time traveler. However, this one may have different motivations in mind…

4Kang The Conqueror Makes His Debut

Season 1 ofLokiteased the future of the Multiverse Saga by introducing audiences to He Who Remains, played by Jonathan Majors. This sage at the end of time warned Loki and Sylvie of his variant counterparts, who will wage a multiversal war if he is killed. I bet it’s not much of a surprise what Sylvie does: she kills He Who Remains, unleashing Kang.

Kang the Conqueror is a major threat in the comics, and given that the next Avengers film is titledAvengers: The Kang Dynasty, it’s safe to say that he will be the next Thanos-level threat. Knowing his comic book past, Scott Lang will have quite an adversary in the Quantum Realm, and judging by the trailer, Kang’s threats against Scott will be massive.

3Bill Murray Is The Key To Janet’s Past

Another surprise in theQuantumaniatrailer isthe appearance of Bill Murray, whose role in the film prior to this was previously unknown. It’s clear, however, that he’s playing an old ally of Michelle Pfeiffer’s Janet van Dyne. It’ll be interesting to see from this character’s perspective what Janet was doing in the Quantum Realm the whole time she was missing.

Some rumors speculate that Murray’s character is named Krylar. If that’s true, that means Murray is playing quite an obscure character in Marvel Comics. Krylar is a scientist who appeared once in an Incredible Hulk comic in 1972, so he’ll likely share little in common with his comic counterpart, creating even more questions about his role in the film.

2The Appearance Of M.O.D.O.K.

Fans at Comic-Con were surprised to see the trailer forQuantumania, particularly because it contained the reveal of a major Marvel baddie. During one sequence, a robotic figure flies toward the screen, who is obviously designed to look like M.O.D.O.K. The film’s director, Peyton Reed, confirmed that M.O.D.O.K would be in the film during the Comic-Con panel.

Given that this M.O.D.O.K. design is completely different from the comic book version, it’s likely the actual character will be too. In the comics,M.O.D.O.K. was formerly a human technicianwho mutated into a human supercomputer, causing him to become deformed. TheQuantumaniaversion, which appears more robotic, may just be a supercomputer.

1Discovering The MCU’s First Family

Part of what has fans so excited aboutQuantumaniais that the exploration of the Quantum Realm may allude to the appearance of The Fantastic Four. In the comics,Scott Lang rescues The Fantastic Four from the Microverse. Perhaps, during the events of this movie, Scott will rescue the MCU’s first family from the accident that gives them their powers.

The significance of Kang the Conqueror in this movie may also have big implications for The Fantastic Four. In comic book lore, Kang was originally a descendant of Reed Richards known as Nathaniel Richards, at one point becoming the superhero Iron Lad. Whether The Fantastic Four appear or not, this movie will have huge implications for their introduction.
