There’s less than a week to go until the launch ofGodfall, the hotly-anticipated looter-slasher from Counterplay Games and Gearbox Publishing. Setting out to create a brand new subgenre, the game combines the loot-based elements of titles likeDestinywith a third-person melee combat system.Godfall’s high fantasy world is divided into elemental realms, which players will travel through as they attempt to overthrow Macros, the Mad God.

To defeat the many enemies they’ll come across, players will be equipped with Valorplates. These are legendary suits of armor that gift their wearer with unique powers. There are twelve in the game, though they haven’t all been revealed yet, and players will also choose weaponry to compliment their Valorplate. There are five differentweapon classes inGodfallto pick from, each with their own strengths and weaknesses. All of these have been shown off by the developer. For any players who missed them (and anything else), here’s a breakdown of all the trailers sinceGodfall’s 2019 announcement.

Reveal Trailer

Released at The Game Awards on December 12th 2019, this reveal trailer gave players their first look at the upcoming looter-slasher. The trailer kept it brief, but introduced the look of the game, as well as hinted at its themes and styling. It also showed off three ofGodfall’s legendary Valorplates, though not the powers that come with them.

PlayStation 5 Gameplay Reveal

The second trailer arrived in June of 2020, and allowed players a brief look atGodfall’s gameplay. What’s more interesting, this gameplay was running on the PS5, Sony’s upcoming console. This trailer confirmed thatGodfallwould be a looter-slasher title, with an artstyle that immediately put people in mind of a fantasyDestiny.

PC Gameplay First Look

The first look atGodfall’s PC Gameplayarrived just two days after the PS5 Gameplay Reveal trailer. Unlike the PS5 trailer, the PC Gameplay First Look came with a developer commentary by Keith Lee, the game director at Counterplay Games. The commentary gives plenty of exposition on the world, the Valorplates, and the story, while gameplay runs in the background. The trailer ended by teasing one of the game’s many boss-level enemies.

PlayStation 5 Combat Overview

The PlayStation 5 Combat Overview trailer arrived two months after the previous two releases. As it was longer than all the other trailers combined, it gave an in-depth look at the minutiae ofGodfall’s gameplay. Once again, Keith Lee supported the trailer with a commentary. This time, he went into the details on gameplay, character progression, and loot mechanics. Perhaps most importantly, it was revealed thatGodfallwill not have microtransactions, and that all items will be unlocked through gameplay.

4K Combat Trailer

Revealed in September 2020,Godfall’s 4K Combat Trailergave Counterplay Games a chance to show off the title’s graphics and artstyle to their full effect. Another two minute trailer, it featured fast-paced combat with captions summarizing the game’s key features. These included co-op play, the Valorplates, and elements of the combat mechanics.

Intro Cinematic

The penultimate trailer forGodfall, released on the official PlayStation YouTube channel, consisted of the game’s intro cinematic. The cinematic gives some loose backstory to the game’s plot, showing the events that lead to the battle between brothers Orin and Macros. Although Macros comes out on top, the trailer ends with Orin rising from his defeat, ready to challenge his brother once again.
