Following its surprise announcement during Nintendo’s E3 2021 showcase,Metroid Dreadhas given fans of the franchise something to look forward to later this year. Because the game was announced so close to its launch, though, fans were worried that a lot of information might still be missing about certain elements of the game leading up to its release.
Luckily, Nintendo has given fansplenty ofMetroid Dreadmaterialto comb over and sift through in search of new powerups, enemies, and gameplay mechanics. Although the most recent trailer from the game that was posted to YouTube on August 27 states that there have only been two proper trailers, Nintendo has shown off much more of the game over the past few months.

The announcement trailer forMetroid Dreadgave fans an unexpected look at the future of the franchise during E3 2021. Initially introduced during the footage asMetroid 5, the trailer gives a rundown of whatDreadis all about and how it will be different from other 2DMetroidgames. The two most notable additions to the franchise forDreadare Samus' new white suit and the game’s constant pursuers the EMMI robots.
As many fans were quick to point out,the idea forMetroid Dreadhas been around since 2005. Most assumed that it would never come out, as the project had gone quiet in favor of 3D entries in the series likeMetroid PrimeandMetroid: The Other M.The development history video that Nintendo showed off following its E3 2021 showcase gives an in-depth look into where the game has been for the past 16 years.Metroid Dread’s producer Yoshio Sakamoto goes into further detail about the game’s journey during the six-minute video.
Immediately following Nintendo’s E3 showcase, the company held a new Treehouse Live that featured interviews with developers and extended gameplay previews for titles likeMario Golf: Super RushandMetroid Dread. The footage shown essentially breaks down exactly how the game will play and what fans can expect from Samus' new pursuers. The footage also points out thatMetroid Dreadwill be ending the storystarted with the originalMetroid. It’s currently unclear what that means for the rest of the franchise, but Nintendo assured fans thatMetroid Prime 4is still in development and hasn’t been canceled.
This roughly two-minute teaser was posted to the official Nintendo YouTube page and offers a little bit more background on whatMetroid Dread’s story will be like. Based on the video, it seems like the game will revolve aroundthe X Parasite and how seven EMMI robots were losttrying to retrieve it. The video also confirmed that Samus' Varia Suit will be back inDreadin some capacity, accompanying the unnamed white suit that’s been featured in the rest of the game’s footage.
Although it’s pretty brief, a lot ofMetroid Dreadis shown off in the latest trailer for the game. More of its story seems to be on display as well as a handful ofreturningMetroidcharacters like Kraid. Additionally, the trailer displays many of the abilities that Samus will unlock over the course of the game as well as some footage of the bounty hunter’s Gravity Suit, which hadn’t been seen up to this point. With Samus' many suits and upgrades being so iconic, it’ll be interesting to see what makes it into the finalized version of the game.
