Summary

Within thePokemoncommunity, there are some very dedicated and talented fans who create impressive fan games based on the popular series. One of the largest of these projects in recent years has beenPokemon Infinite Fusion, a game that starts with a simple premise and takes it to an incredibly detailed level. For players who may be looking for a fresh take on the series ahead of the DLC forPokemon Scarlet and Violet,Pokemon Infinite Fusionoffers a complex system of mechanics that build upon one of the fan base’s favorite activities.

Fan games have been a point of controversy within thePokemoncommunity as they often get taken down by The Pokemon Company for copyright reasons. Despite this risk, there has been an abundance of fan games created for the franchise over the years, andPokemon Infinite Fusionis one of the most unique to come out of this trend. WhilePokemonfusionsprites and fan art are common within the community,Pokemon Infinite Fusiontakes this concept and allows players to use these fused creatures for battle in an actual game.

Pokemon Infinite Fusion is a Deep Fusion-Based Fan Game

Pokemon Infinite Fusionis a ROM hack developed by PokeCommunity user Schrroms that allows players to fuse any two critters they’ve captured into a unique new one. While this concept alone is an intriguing mechanic worth exploring, it’s made better by the fact that the game uses a multitude of community-created fusion sprites to give many of the fused creatures a wholly unique design. In total, there are 176,400 possible fusion combinations, makingPokemon Infinite Fusion’s Pokedexfar bigger than any official game in the series has ever attempted to create, giving players a huge amount of content to uncover as they fuse mons for themselves.

The gameplay itself takes on the form of a standardPokemonadventure at its surface level, with players catching and training critters to battle their way through 16 total gyms across the Kanto and Johto regions. The added story premise builds upon a new invention developed by Silph Co. called the DNA Splicers which Team Rocket seeks to utilize for their own nefarious purposes. Although the DNA Splicers are not a completely original item, appearing inPokemon Black 2 and White 2, their only use in those games was to allow Kyurem to change forms by fusing with Reshiram or Zekrom, soPokemon Infinite Fusion’s use of the item greatly expands on their original concept.

The real meat ofPokemon Infinite Fusionis the fusions themselves, which require players to purchase DNA Splicers from the PokeMart to perform. When fusing two mons, players will get to choose between two new forms with one base mon acting as the head and the other as the body, combing the two mons' typing. Once fused, players then get to choose from both base mons' move pools,Pokemon abilities, and natures to create their ideal fusion, but these fusions can be reversed should the player not like the result by using DNA Reverses that can also be purchased from the PokeMart.

With all the possible combinations of mons to uncover, it’s clear whyPokemon Infinite Fusionhas exploded in popularity among the community in recent months. The game has garnered a dedicated community of followers and continues to receive updates with even more content like new moves, animations, and battle mechanics being added over time. With the wait forPokemon Scarlet and Violet’s DLCdragging on, fans looking for something to dig into in the meantime may want to check out the PokeCommunity page for the game and downloadPokemon Infinite Fusionfor themselves.
