CD Projekt Red has finally released the next-gen versions of the divisiveCyberpunk 2077. The next-gen patch (1.5) became available immediately after it was announced, with players who already own the title getting a free upgrade.Cyberpunk 2077was perhaps the most anticipated game in the industry for years leading up to its premature release. After several delays, the game was released in December 2019. Although CD Projekt Red insisted that the title would run fine on the old generation of consoles, the game’s release quickly proved that this was far from the truth. Later updates improved things, but many have been holding out for the next-gen versions.RELATED:Cyberpunk 2077 Player Compares Massive Graphic Update ChangesIn a tweet, the official page for the game released a performance overview for howCyberpunk 2077runs on the next-gen consoles. Players on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X can expect 4K visuals, with a choice between 60fps or 30fps and ray tracing. On the other hand, the overview does not make for good reading when it comes to those who play on the Xbox Series S. Unfortunately, players on Series S will not have a choice between modes, and will be locked into 30fps at with a maximum resolution of 1440p.
This news is pretty underwhelming forCyberpunk 2077players with a Series S who have been waiting on the next-gen upgrade. Although there are still some graphical improvements and quality of life improvements to the Series S version, the lack of a 60fps mode will surely be disheartening. That is not to say that the other consoles have had upgrades free of problems, for those with a PlayStation 5, anytrophies earned on the PlayStation 4 version won’t transfer.
Before it launched, it was to be understood that the Series S would sacrifice resolution for frame rate, however that is not looking to be the case.Cyberpunk 2077is not the first next-gen release to reveal this; the recent release ofDying Light 2is another that has put Series S users at a disadvantage. Techland has even stated that theSeries S hardware held the game back, preventing it from running at 60fps.
On the flip side, it isn’t all bad news for Series S players, as the 1.5 patch doesn’t just come with performance upgrades. The patch has a lot more to it, fixing bugs, gameplay issues, and giving players free DLC. Those playing on Series S will still benefit from these changes, even if the only performance improvement is that the game can now run at 1440p rather than 1080p.
Cyberpunk 2077is available now on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
