TheWonder Twinsmovie has reportedly been canceled byWarner Bros.despite gearing up for a summer 2022 shoot and even naming the two leads who would play the DC duo.
TheWonder Twinsmoviewas first announced earlier this year, with director Adam Sztykiel set to helm the project after previously helming Dwayne Johnson’sBlack AdamforWarner Bros.Since then, however, Warner Bros. has fallen under new management following the WarnerMedia and Discovery merger, and theWonder Twinsmovie may have been impacted by the deal.

According to That Hashtag Show, the crew fortheWonder Twinsmoviewas informed that the project was being scrapped early during the week of May 1. While there is no word on why theWonder Twinsmovie was allegedly canceled, the outlet reminds readers that several WarnerMedia plans that were in motion before the Warner Bros-Discovery merger was finalized have been changed now that the company is under new management as Warner Bros. Discovery. It may be worth noting that neither Warner Bros. Pictures nor DC have officially confirmed the cancelation of theWonder Twinsmovie.
If true, news of theWonder Twinsmovie being axed comes roughly two months before the project was scheduled to begin production.KJ Apa and Isabel Mayhad even been cast asWonder Twinsleads Zan and Jayna, respectively, as recently as mid-April. The project was going to be the first live-action feature film for the Wonder Twins, who as of now have only appeared in cartoons or in supporting roles on DC-based shows likeSmallville.
Again, while Warner Bros. has yet to confirm the cancellation of theWonder Twinsmovie, the news wouldn’t be entirely surprising considering the reports aboutWarner Bros. Discovery’s plans to overhaul DC films. While those reports mostly concerned the company’s plans to find a Kevin Feige-type leader to oversee the DC films, it’s entirely possible that the higher-ups at Warner Bros. Discovery didn’t see the same value in the Wonder Twins as their predecessors.
CNN+ was notably canceled just weeks after it launched because it was incompatible with the company’s goal of forming a single streaming service to house all of its content. So, perhaps theWonder Twinswere one of the first DC-related victims of the new management’s differing views on how to move into the future.
