Summary
AWorld of Warcraftfan recently discovered a new icon on the minimap inThe War Withinthat helps players find hidden lore objects. This new UI element will ensure more fans discover these secrets, and enhance the worldbuilding of the nextWorld of Warcraftexpansion.
The War Within, coming toWorld of Warcrafton August 26, adds four new zones located in Khaz Algar, an island full of ancient history and expansive subterranean zones. Like those in anyWoWexpansion, these areas will be full of dangerous creatures, gorgeous visuals, and numerous side quests.

However, oneWorld of Warcraftfan player discovered a new map feature inThe War Withinthat will breathe even more life into Khaz Algar. While exploringthe beta forWorld of Warcraft: The War Within,WoWfan and lore expert Portergauge noticed a new minimap maker in the shape of a golden magnifying glass. This icon directs players towards lore objects – books, scrolls, tablets, and even holographic recorders that contain text and dialogue to flesh out the world. The icon disappears after a character interacts with the object once, ensuring their minimap does not become overly cluttered.
Lore Object Minimap Icon in WoW: The War Within
Right now, this icon only seems to appear on new lore objects in Khaz Algar. The hidden tablets inDragonflight, Lorewalker scrolls scattered aroundMists of Pandaria, and other objects found acrossWorld of Warcraft’s many zonesfrom previous expansions don’t have minimap markers of their own quite yet. That said, it is possibleWorld of Warcraftcould add them in the future, especially if fans request it.
ThisnewWorld of Warcraft: The War Withinmap featureis great for both worldbuilding and gameplay. Pointing players towards these lore items makes it so that they will be less likely to miss out on the set dressing of the new expansion, letting fans better immerse themselves in the story and world. Additionally, hidden lore objects inWorld of Warcraftare sometimes associated with unlocking achievements, so marking these prerequisite items on the map would make tracking them down much less of a headache for completionists and lore enjoyers alike.
