WWE 2K23is set to build on the success ofWWE 2K22by making changes to some game modes, including MyGM and Showcase Mode. While these changes alone may be plenty for players who enjoyed last year’s game,WWE 2K23will also include a new match type called WarGames that seems both challenging and chaotic in its own right. The new match type looks perfect for multiplayer, and seems like it would work great inWWE 2K23’s Universe and MyGM Modes.

WarGames is a 3v3 or 4v4 match type coming toWWE 2K23that features two rings surrounded by a steel cage where teams will fight to win either by pinning or submission. With six or eight fighters in each match, WarGames will be a new way for players to test their skills as they attempt to isolate themselves from the rest of the group. WarGames seems like it will quickly become a mainstay match type inWWE 2Kmultiplayer, and can even be a great option for amain event inWWE 2K23’s MyGM Modedue to the high number of stars it can pull together so quickly.

WWE 2K23’s WarGames

The first thing most players will notice aboutWWE 2K23’s new WarGames match typeis its two-ring system, which lines up two wrestling rings and surrounds them with a steel cage. This increases the area in which fighters are able to move and makes options a bit easier to manage, especially given not all superstars will be starting in the ring. A WarGames fight will begin with one superstar from each team as new ones are introduced periodically, giving one team an advantage as the match potentially turns from a tag-team into a 3v4 handicap match and so on, until everyone is in the match.

Superstars entering the ring after a match has started will be able to grab weapons from under the ring, increasing the chaos within the cage and potentially changing the tide of the fight. Ultimately, all the superstars inWWE 2K23will need to be within the cage at the same time for a match-ending pin or submission to be made. This could level the playing field for a disadvantaged team, but ensuring that minimal damage is taken prior to everything filling out will be important for competitors.

WarGames Could Be a Safe Bet For Universe and MyGM Modes

One of the hardest challenges in the MyGM and Universe game modes is ensuring that each match gets a five-star rating, which requires a lot of variety and can lead to lengthy bouts. WithWarGames’ 3v3 and 4v4 match format, players will easily be able to hit the higher ratings thanks to the number of superstars in their ring at a given time. The steel cage also allows for some high-flying moves and the use of weapons, both of which should boost ratings.

WWE 2K22’s MyGM Mode was criticized for not having enough match types, which made it harder to boost the rating of any given show.Using Universe Mode in WWE 2K23could also give players a similar ratings boost with the opportunity to recreate WarGames matches that actually took place in the WWE.

WWE 2K22delivered one of the best entries in the 2K era ofWWEgames, but there was definitely room for improvement. Modes like MyGM and Universe were often brought down by the lengthy fights required to achieve better ratings and the lack of match-type options available to players. However,WWE 2K23’s WarGames would give fans a chaotic and action-packed match type that could help elevate ratings through an enjoyable experience that hasnot been in previousWWE 2Kgames.

WWE 2K23is scheduled to release on March 17 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
