Over 22 years have passed since the release of Valve’s acclaimedHalf-Life. In the years following the 1998 release Valve published several sequels. These includeHalf-Life 2: Episode One, Half-Life 2: Episode Two, andHalf-Life: Alyx. However, the company never published aHalf-Life 3. Though Valve long denied claims that a follow-upHalf-Lifeinstallment was ever in development, a 2020 documentary finally revealed it had canceled the game.

Most fans gave up onHalf-Life 3as a result of this announcement, but one man has not abandoned hope. “Today is May 28, 2025” a glum looking YouTuber going by the name of Hazard Time announces to his 126 viewers. “There is no news aboutHalf-Life 3.” This video marks his 1202nd dailyHalf-Life 3update.

Throughout its three year run, the channel has gone through several chapters. One of the most notable being the saga beginning onApril Fool’s Day 2019, where the channel owner was inexplicably replaced by a different man. This continued for eight days until a cryptic black and white video hinted at the original host’s reappearance. The following video showed the owner’s return; the moment punctuated by Eminem’s “Without Me.” Yet, one thing has remained consistent: “there is no news aboutHalf-Life 3.”

The channel owner, Liam Praino remarked a common trope in zombie movies inspired his bizarre daily effort. In this trope a character films himself, stating the number of days since the outbreak. Praino stated that though he is aware ofthe release ofHalf-Life: Alyx, he does not believe it is “Half-Life 3.” Praino has yet to play the new installment in the franchise, as it is exclusive to VR. His Patreon states all funds received go towards the purchase of a VR headset so the determined fan can finally experienceHalf-Life: Alyx.

ThoughHalf-Life: Alyx’sending re-ignited hope for aHalf-Life 3,Half-Lifefans have long criticized Praino for his unshakable belief. Much of the online reception to the mans videos is mockery, some good natured, and some sarcastic.

However, The YouTuber has persisted and over the years his dedication to his cause has earned him respect among the few who watch his updates. In an emotional 869th episode Liam admits, “honestly we have a long road ahead of us.” The hero among gamers and dedicated fan is still eagerly awaitingHalf-Life 3though. “I still believe inHalf-Life 3. I believe [in] it now as much as I did three, four years ago.Half-Life: Alyxhas not changed my belief thatHalf-Life 3will come out. I’ve always thought that. I still think that.”
