Summary
While playingThe Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, one player decided to put their engineering skills to the test by building a mechanical dragon. Despite being a sequel toBreath of the Wild,Tears of the Kingdombuilt upon the foundation of its predecessor by allowing players to create all sorts of things in the game’s world thanks to new abilities.
These new abilities, including Ultrahand, have allowed players to turn Link into an inventor. Since the game was released in May 2023, the game’s community has pushed the limits of what is possible, creating numerous helpful and impressive-looking machines. From vehicles based on film franchises likeStar Warsto weaponized gadgets to take down Lynels and otherenemies inTears of the Kingdom, the player base has come up with all sorts of builds.
Recently, a user known as osh-kosh-ganache shared an incredible video on Reddit of a mechanical dragon they created inTears of the Kingdom. As illustrated in the video, the dragon, dubbed Jeff the Dragon, could perform the actions commonly associated with the magical beasts, such as flapping its wings, breathing fire, and flying through the skies above Hyrule. Beyond these functions, the build by osh-kosh-ganache stood out due to the design’s similarities to a real dragon. Impressively, the creator used variousZonai devices inTears of the Kingdom, such as fans, big wheels, and wings, along with other parts, like a minecart, to create the features of the dragon.
How to Build This Mechanical Dragon in Tears of the Kingdom
While the mechanical fire-breathing dragon was incredible to watch, osh-kosh-ganache provided a tutorial detailing how to build the machine inTears of the Kingdom. This video gave a step-by-step breakdown of the process, providing players with a simple way to make their own Jeff the Dragon. In addition, the creator provided some additional context on the creation in the Reddit comments, noting the mechanical dragon was built inversion 1.2.1 ofTears of the Kingdom. Furthermore, they said this was an improved version of a previous design, revealing that Jeff the Dragon could now be recreated using the Autobuild ability.
It is worth pointing out that osh-kosh-ganache is a prolific builder who features many of their impressive designs on the Hyrule Engineering subreddit. According to the creator, this most recent dragon build went through many iterations to work properly, and they revealed that “Having a model that you can auto build and also flies better than the first model is especially fulfilling to make.”
Even thoughTears of the Kingdomis not expected to receive DLC, the building mechanics present in the game will likely keep players coming back long after they complete the main story. Time will tell what talented builders like osh-kosh-ganache come up with next in the game’s world.
